On March 31, 2005 your QRP Fox Hunt Committee held its first Foxtravaganza in honor of our friend and silent Key W5YR. This Foxtravaganza took place exactly two weeks after the last "official" hunt and was a fine ending to a great season! This soapbox, itself, was closed for comments on April 8, 2005 and his archived here for your reading pleasure!

Great fun as usual. Condx were fairly poor, but enough hounds calling in to make it interesting. Worked more the second session than the first which surprised me. Nice to hear those familiar calls coming thru. George would be pleased !

What a great way to end the seasons hunt. It was a wonderful tribute to George, W5YR. Many thanks for sponsoring the event and the entire Winter Fox Hunt. As a member of the number two team, my hat goes off to the number one team those Underdogs. Congratulations to them for a well deserved win.
I will miss W5YR, George and his softly spoken sage advice and counsel. His memory lingers. I will never be able to work a Fox without thinking of him.

This was a marvelous event, even though conditions were marginal...and a fitting tribute to an ardent Hound we'll all miss. I hope we can begin hosting one of these fun blowouts after each Fox Season, Summer and Winter.

Anyhow, the W5YR FoXtravaganza was a blast. Condx here in Denver were patchy but better than the night before, which would have been a disaster. I started out right at the top edge but eventually ran out of customers and decided to QSY down the band, hearing almost nothing in between. Interesting event and probably worth doing again. Great conclusion to the 10th anniversary season, hope to see all of you in the Summer '05 Hunt. 73 DE ET ;)

What a blast. Was able to tune the band and find foxes everywhere (almost). Worked Foxes steady throughout the two hours. 11 unique foxes worked, then add in 5 repeats. Worked every fox heard except 1. :(
I too would like to see this repeat each year as a memorial to W5YR.

Excellent way to end the 40 meter Fox Hunts. Good conditons with signals to match. Can't say enough about the quality of the operators the Fox were and have been all winter.
I sent "George" in my exchange in honor of W5YR. Never had the pleasure of meeting George but had a lot of respect for him.
Thanks to all those whose efforts make the QRP-L Fox Hunts possible.

Worked only 8 FOXII but I had a good time hunting for them. 40M here was long at first but then towards the end I worked 2 NY Foxii. It was noisey lots of qrn from lightning. I will be there for the next one.

This was one of the most enjoyable outings I have had. Conditions were good in northern Colorado with some QRN but apparently not like other areas. I made 91 Qs with hounds. Activity was fairly steady with no large pileups. I thank the committee for putting this event together. 72, Dick, W0NTA

The band was surprisingly quiet before the hunt. I found a clear freq and locked the FVO. Started sending V's and QRL in an attempt to hold the freq. Its nice to know the first station I worked W0RW, was portable.
Half way through and as the propagation shifted, I QSY'd to avoid QRMing another FOX. I Found another freq and enjoyed the second half as much as the first.
For 85% of the hunt I had to set the DSP at 200 and Attenuator on.
I had a great time and think this would be a great event to CAP the upcoming seasons. Not only did it Honor W5YR but it was also a great way to cap the 10th anniversary.... Nice Job Fox Hunt Committee.

The extravaganza ended my first season of fox hunting and I couldn't think of a better way to go out. I want to echo the thanks from Dennis, WB8WTU, to the organizers and all the Foxes. Foxii? (I'm still not sure about that one.)
I also wanted to thank Alan, N3BJ, for picking me out of the muck. That guy has golden ears! Only managed to bring home 8 pelts and 4 repeats but man what fun! Rig hr is Ten-Tec Argosy to 44' inverted-v.

WOW!! What an evening! That was great to hear all the FOXII in one PACK. 30 pelts, that should take care of the craving for a while. MANY THANKS to organizing CREW and FOXII for a great evening. Can we do it again.

I began the eveing by working Dennis N4DD at about 0158Z as a "warm-up". Then, I silenced my radio at 0200Z for the first minute in tribute to W5YR.
It was a pleasant duty to find a semi-quiet spot; there were Foxii abound, and it did my heart good to hear them all!
Thanks to all the hounds who stuck by me when I had to ask for repeats. The band, which was quite nice at first, grew quite noisey with QRN towards the end of the first hour. In all, I handed out close to 50 pelts. I'd also like to thank the Foxhunt Committee for making me feel most welcome my first year as a Fox.
I hope that we can make this the "Annual W5YR Foxtravaganza"

Had a good time here, I logged 15 total. Thought I had N4DD a second
time, not sure so maybe 16. The second hour was QSB land for me. One
second a fox would be 599 the next they were 529.
I think when I worked KB2FEL he was so close to N3BJ that Alan thought I
was calling him again when I was trying to work Bob. Alan was LOUD LOUD
LOUD here in Missouri.

We gotta do that again. I really expected more stations but think props were not in favor for Houston. Props were very strange, would reply to a station that was 569 and he returned at 519. Was hard to find a clear freq as there were so many FOX calling CQ. Looking forward to the next one. K2 to dipole at 35'.

What a great fun way to end the season and add an exclamation point to George's call. Thanks for all the effort and preparation.

Great fun! It would make a FB annual event and might be billed as the W5YR Foxtravaganza in honor of George. Weekly Fox hunting is a lot of fun, and the Foxtravaganza was outstanding. Many thanx to all the Foxxii. Your efforts are appreciated.

It was good to be able to work all the
foxii in one "session". We should have
another like that soon, in fact one or two per year would be great. Perhaps monthly with all the months' foxii on at the same time.

First time ever to chase a Fox...I heard a few, but some just faded away while I was waiting. Wasn't even sure of the exchange but just jumped in. I really like a lot of QRP activity and there was plenty. I even heard a few "tuner-uppers" on 7040. I think I'll start listening more.

Just a note to sincerely thank Doc, Bruce, Lloyd, Todd, ET and Roger for all thier efforts in organizing a GREAT winter Fox Hunt season. The final Foxtravaganza was truely an event and more fun than should be allowed. Also, thanks to all the Foxii - First Class CW ops one and all. I was amused by Tom, KV2X, who was camped just below W1AW - like a sub under an oil tanker. Thanks again to all.

Ran my K2 into an 88ft doublet up 30ft. Waited for intense thunderstorm to pass through Austin, but it left lots of QRN behind :-) Heard lots of ear-splitting signals over the static crashes, however. Grabbed 8 pelts the first hour and 10 the second for a total of 11 of 23 individual Foxii. Fun to hear QRPer's cover the whole band. Think I heard only 4 other signals plus W1AW code practice. Wow, what great fun that was!
